Why Every Outdoor Chick Should Spend a Week Freeriding… With Just the Girls

Updated: Apr 12, 2018

Sometimes I have the most fun just shredding with the girls.

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to spend an entire week boarding with a bunch of like-minded chicks in Ste-Foy-Tarantaise in the Savoie Region of the French Alps.

Although living in Innsbruck is fantastic, it was such a luxury to walk out of the chalet and straight onto a chairlift. And though Ste-Foy is super close to some huge resorts like Tignes and Meribel (part of the 3 valleys), it has a totally different vibe.

For starters, there are only 4 chair lifts. But from them, you have access to a huge backcountry playground of tree runs, bowls, and couloirs.

Fortunately, we were blessed with a bit fresh snow during the week and managed to find some awesome untouched lines.

Also, being chicks only, there was a lot less pressure, which meant you could try new things—a few of the girls even managed to land a 360 for the first time.

Corrine Mayhew was our guide for the week. She’s such a lovely person and it just felt like you were heading up the hill with a good mate. And by the end of the week, I felt like my boarding had improved massively.

We also spent some time learning about the mountains and dangers of avalanches. Building a snow pit is a great way to check out the snowpack—just try not to fall in!

After each day there were, of course, some well-deserved aprés beers, followed by an amazing 3-course meal at the White Room Chalet.

Some of the girls were living locally and went home each day, but for those that stayed, our chalet hosts, Matt and Krissy, were fantastic.

And, of course, the wood burning fire and sauna were a bonus too!

So, why should you consider a girls-only week?

  • Meet some amazing like-minded chicks

  • Shred hard without any pressure or having to wait for the lads to keep up ;)

  • Learn some new tricks

  • Relax, chill-out, and have fun

  • Have great conversations and a few giggles over a nice cup of coffee or a few beers at the end of each day

I would definitely recommend a girls only [insert your preferred sport/type of riding here] week to any chick as a way of improving your skills, meeting some great people, and just relaxing and having some fun.

Do you enjoy being out on the mountain with your fellow outdoor chicks? Have you ever done a girls only week? Let us know in the comments.
